Manuka honey comes from the nectar of the plant Leptospermum Scoparium, is a rare and pure honey (not pasteurized) harvested by bees in the pristine areas of New Zealand and has a significant content of Manuka pollen. It has an excellent taste and has been a traditional Maori nostrum, for years. It has therapeutic use for common cold, sore throat, hoarseness, cough and other common winter viral infections. At the same time, it has been used to protect the digestive system as well as a patch on microtraverses or skin diseases.
After scientific research in Europe and Asia, it was found that Manuka honey contains the highest content of natural enzymes with antibacterial properties, called Methylglyoxal or MGO, from any other honey. As a result, it is included in the list of superfoods that contribute to both the overall well-being of the body (immune system, blood circulation, etc.) and to maintaining the hydration of the epidermis (improving the skin's appearance). Specifically, Manuka honey is tonic, energetic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, gastroprotective, prebiotic, soothing and helps to counteract antibiotic resistance.
Manuka honey used by Algem Natura contains 500mg methylglyoxal for every 1kg of honey and complies with Regulation 852/2004 H A C C P.
